Who they are... they are everyday, ordinary, giving people who open up their hearts and homes to our grey friends,  inviting them in for a moment, a week, or a month. Unselfishly, they fulfill the dogs' needs often placing  their own needs on hold. They transport, organise, foster, event plan, fund-raise, book-keep and spend some sleepless nights keeping vigil until these beautiful grey dogs have healed inside and out, physically and emotionally and are ready for a forever home. These volunteers are the reason we can do what we do.  They are in short, heroes.

beckyI am a stay-at-home mom to four beautiful children, three daughters and our son. We began volunteering after we adopted our first weim, Lexie, about four years ago. Unfortunately, a few months ago, we lost her due to health issues. She was the sweetest dog and we feel so fortunate to had her as long as we did. We adopted our second weim-mix a couple of years ago, who we adore! We've had a few fosters in between and have helped with various fund-raisers, transports and other essential aspects of the rescue group. It means so much to our family to be a part of such a wonderful organization!

ray_evaRay and Eva Abrams have been volunteering since July 2009.  They were considering adding a second weim to their home but decided that fostering would be a great way to help several dogs rather than just adopting one.  Their own weim Wrigley loves having playmates and fortunately their two cats are very dog tolerant!

angie1About 7.5 years ago I heard the word Weimaraner... Weim.. a what? There she was all 82 pounds of her, Morgan. What a face, intelligent. loving, my new best buddy. I told myself the dogs were not getting on the furniture, that lasted about 4 hours. Morgan gave me the look and weaseled her way into my lap and chair. From that point on I was pulled into Weimy World. I wanted to know everything about the breed and what I could do to save them. Along the way I rescued my little baby, Jade. What a love. So today as Director of Wonder Weims I look back on the hundreds of dogs "WE" have saved. When I say "WE" I mean all of the volunteer that put their heart and soul into rescue. Without them we couldn't do what we do. They have become my best friends and confidants.

chris.andrea Say hello to Chris, Andrea, Weimy Jasmine & Rotty Buddy. Chris and Andrea have been volunteering for a year.  They enjoy fostering occasionaly, transporting & fund raising. They love helping and hope some day  they have more land and more Weims!

wendyandchadWendy and Chad are the tropical members of the group. Jumping in and helping with fostering, transporting and fundraising. They have their hands full with 4 wiemys of their own!

lizLiz has been a volunteer for 4 years. She is all Weimy all the time. Because of her love of Weims she is in school becoming a vet tech. After graduation she hopes to be able to help the Weims further with her brilliant medical knowledge. She also knows the youngest person in the US that can say Weimaraner correctly, her son, Jack! Liz helps with fostering, transports, and adoption applications.

stevesarahSteve and Sarah began fostering in August 2007 and have loved every minute of it!  They love helping the dogs and meeting other volunteers.  But, their favorite part is finding the perfect home for a foster.  They love getting email, pictures, and phone calls from their adoptive family, updating them on how the dog is adjusting.  Steve and Sarah also enjoy volunteering at community events and helping to raise awareness of rescue groups.  Their other 'kids' are Esther, a yellow lab, and Simone, Godzilla, and Sophie - the cat clan.

hersheynmomMeet Marge VanPraag from Poplar Bluff MO. Here's Marge with her 5 month old baby, Hershey.

weddinggrup1Thank you and congrats to the newlyweds Michell and Brad from STL.  They had a dollar dance and donated all that was raised, $175, to Wonder Weims!  Volunteers from left: Angie, Michelle, Brad, Allison, Jarrette

staceyBlaine and Stacey have been volunteering for 2 months.  They have helped with transporting, fundraising, and fostered Nigel (6 months old) until they got too attached to give him up.  Dax (4 years old)  is also adopted through the rescue.  "We love our weims, they are always so playful, they love to cuddle, and they make us laugh every day!  We do this because we can’t imagine a weim not being loved and taken care of."  Neela (2 years old) is pictured here too.

mattandsamanthaSamantha and Matt are currently fostering Ben.  They say it is the best way to help dogs in need without adopting a third one.  Although they are fairly new as volunteers, they have done a super job!  They're other fur-babies are Larry, a black Lab mix, and George, who is a Wheaten Terrier mix.  Three biggish dogs can be a bit much but they love it!

Take Me Home!

Dobby-8Dobby (named after the house-elf in Harry Potter) is a big, beautiful, 7 ½ year old, blue female. She is very smart and knows how to sit, lay, speak and the word “no“. She is crate trained, house broken, and great in a car but needs some more work on a leash. Dobby is good with kids, cats, dogs and even pet rabbits but would be best in a home as an only dog or with another dog that has no dominance issues as she is definitely alpha female. She is a bit food aggressive when around other dogs in her home but she’s gentle when taking treats or food from you. Dobby is a BIG girl at 94 lbs and is known to be a counter surfer, stealing bits of food wherever she can find it! Since she is so big, she needs a large, fenced in yard and will not do well as an apartment dog and would be best with older kids. She is a barker and used to wear a bark collar but is working on not barking without it. She is a typical Weim that loves to follow you around so she needs lots of love and attention! She'll give you triple the love that you give her! STL, MO
